JOB SUMMARY

Sun Gro Horticulture is seeking a passionate, meticulous, and self-driven Health and Safety Coordinator to implement, monitor, and continuously improve workplace health and safety practices at our Plant. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will play a key role in accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and the promotion of a strong, proactive safety culture.

LOCATION
Elma, Manitoba

WHAT YOU WILL DO?
  • Implement and maintain health and safety prevention programs; the resource for all HS&E throughout the site.
  • Keep all health and safety management system documentation up to date.
  • Lead health and safety meetings, train teams, and raise employee awareness of best practices.
  • Participate in the investigation of incidents/accidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial/federal health and safety laws and regulations, as well as internal company standards.
  • Work closely with management to integrate health and safety into all daily operations and to implement health and safety plans.
  •  Maintain accurate health and safety documentation and produce required reports.
  • Assist in monitoring the IMS system (Intelex) entries, and work with management in managing and escalating incident submissions. 
  • Act as a resource person during internal and external audits.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work processes in collaboration with the company’s human resources department.

REQUIREMENTS 
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 1-3 years in a similar role, ideally in an industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing setting, is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills including experience in facilitation, training, giving presentations and writing reports. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
